Honey Garlic Ham Hocks Rate this article: 4.3 7150 Print Yield:serves 4 Prep Time: 10-15 minutes Cooking Time: 2 hours and 10 minutes Ingredients: 4 x 500 g ham hocks 1 large carrot, rough chopped 1 onion, rough chopped 1 celery stick, rough chopped 3 Tbsp fresh parsley 1 bay leaf 1 tsp salt 1/4 tsp pepper Honey Garlic Sauce 1/2 cup honey 4 cloves garlic, minced 3 tsp fresh ginger, grated 1 Tbsp rice vinegar 2 Tbsp canola oil 4 Tbsp low-sodium soy sauce 1 Tbsp hoisin sauce 1 Tbsp cornstarch 1/4 cup water Sesame seeds Green onion, sliced Cooking Instructions: To make ham hocks: Place ham hocks in a large Dutch oven. Add carrot, onion, celery and herbs. Cover with water. Bring to boil over medium-high heat, reduce to medium-low and simmer, covered, for 2 hours. Preheat oven to 400 ºF. Remove ham hocks from liquid and place on a roasting tray. Remove the skin and trim off all fat to reveal the meat. Discard skin and fat. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes. Meanwhile make the honey garlic sauce (see below) Remove ham hocks from oven. Pull meat away from the bones and either chop or shred. Add meat to the honey garlic sauce and stir to coat. Serve with steamed rice and vegetables, or in lettuce cups with a dash of sriracha. Top with sesame seeds and some sliced green onion. To make honey garlic sauce: Combine all ingredients, except cornstarch and water, in a small sauce pan. Combine cornstarch with water in a small dish to make a slurry, and then stir into sauce pan mixture.' Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer for 2-4 minutes on low, stirring, until thickened.
