Food Safety and Traceability Initiative (FSTI)

  • The FSTI is part of the Best Practices suite of Growing Forward, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative.  It is being administered by OMAFRA for the province of Ontario.
  • The FSTI provides cost share funding to individual businesses and producers to support the implementation or improvement of food safety or traceability systems for producers and processors.
  • Producers certified under the Canadian Quality Assurance (CQA®) program are eligible under Project Option 2 and are not required to attend an FSTI Information Session.  Proof of CQA® certification will need to be provided with the completed application.
  • Producers who are not enrolled in the CQA® program are eligible to receive cost share funding to obtain their initial Full Validation under Project Option 3.
  • OMAFRA will begin receiving applications beginning March 1st, 2010 at 9:00am. 
  • Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis until available funds are used up.

New for 2010

  • Cost-share funding ratio changed to 50% to increase the potential participants.
  • Funding cap increased to $25 000 for expenditures that are a combination of food safety and traceability initiatives.
  • Funding cap of $15 000 for expenditures that are either food safety or traceability based
  • A Premises Identification Certificate from OnTrace is a program eligibility requirement.  Ontario Pork is working with OnTrace to verify the premises registration numbers issued to pork producers beginning in 2007.

Ontario pork producers may submit their completed FSTI applications to Ontario Pork by February 24th, 2010.  The applications will be delivered to OMAFRA at 9:00am March 1st.
