Tom McLaren, Ontario Pork Lobbyist

Tom McLaren from Stakeholder Strategies Inc, has been engaged to help Ontario Pork with government lobbying and advocacy. He is a registered lobbyist for Ontario Pork for the past three years. Some of the major issues he has assisted Ontario Pork with include, lobbying for improvements to the Clean Water Act, securing funding for Ontario pork producers through the OCHHP program, the Market Renewal Project and Ontario Pork’s current advocacy for Ontario government support. In addition to advocacy projects, Tom helps organize the annual Queen’s Park MPP reception, Ontario Pork’s pre budget consultation submission, policy days and other special policy and government meetings. Tom also provides advice to the Safety Net Committee.

Tom spent over 15 years of his career with the Alberta Government in various roles including Senior Budget Advisor in the Finance Department to serving as Secretary to Economic Planning Committee of the Alberta Cabinet. In Ontario he recently served as Assistant Deputy Minister if Corporate Communications in the Ontario Cabinet Office at Queen’s Park.

As a lobbyist, he was President of Government Policy Consultants International which was the world’s largest lobbying consulting firm at the time. He also served as the firm’s international president where he oversaw offices in London, Brussels, Paris, Berlin and other international cities. He has specialized in lobbying for the natural resource sector including agriculture, energy, forestry and mining companies and the sector’s associations.



He holds a masters degree in Public Administration and a B.Sc. in Biology.
