From Our Farms to your Families
The Dirt on Pigs
Farmers and their families live very close to the land and understand the importance of healthy soil, water and air. Farmers respect and depend on the environment to create a healthy place to live as well as the right conditions to grow crops and raise livestock.
Everything you ever needed to know about pigs …but didn’t know who to ask! Most Canadians (98%)are not farmers, but many know someone who produces, sells, buys or simply loves pork. The great news is that farmers want to share their stories and talk about how they raise their pigs and the pork you eat.
The Pig Poop Cycle
This handy 1-page full colour chart shows the 4-stage cycle of what happens with pig poop, or manure, from storage to farmers' fields to fertilizing crops like corn, which is then used to feed pigs before the entire process repeats. It also highlights some facts about just how much "pig poop" is created and used at the various steps along the way.
Pig Tales Fun Book
Intended for a younger audience, the Pig Tales Fun Book is loaded with great activities for kids to enjoy. From word games and colouring to puzzles, word searches and trivia! Your students will have a blast with this 14-page activity book while they learn all about pigs in the process.
